O.K. this is the last time I try to talk sports with my husband. He definitely said that I should die my hair blonder. What-Ev! So here was my thought:

Right now the Boston Red Sox are playing the Toronto Blue Jays. We, of course, are cheering on the Sox. During the game I had a thought. The Blue Jays are in Canada. I’m not sure that is right. I mean. Isn’t baseball an American past time? So why is there a Canadian baseball team? Shouldn’t all the States have a chance to have a team before we start outsourcing our baseball to other countries? Like, what about Hawaii? I’m sure they’d like a team.

I know they like sports cuz they have college sports. They even host the Hawaii Bowl Game for college football. And they have to fly to play other college teams. So it doesn’t seem like travel would be that hard to figure out. They don’t even have a neighboring state with a professional team to root for. They are all alone. I think they should get a team before Canada. I know people would go see the game, cuz its fun and exciting and new. I mean if you get to see all the beautiful beach and scenery all the time I’m sure it gets boring and who couldn’t go for some sports!

So I think the Blue Jays should be sent to Hawaii. Then Alaska should have a chance at a team too. For the same reasons. Then let other countries have a team….I guess. Even though, like I said, it’s an American Pastime.

Don’t get me wrong. I think Canadians are great. We even have Canadian friends, so I am not prejudice against Canadians. I think they add a higher level of competition to our hockey. The competitive hockey did originate there. So I agree in letting them be a part of our Hockey league. It’s their specialty. They grew up on frozen ponds and shit. It would be boring for them to just have an American Hockey league and a Canadian Hockey league. Plus their talent gets spread around through the players to all the teams. The value of participating in Hockey with them is great. It makes sense. I don’t see that as the same thing with the baseball. Have you ever heard anyone super excited cuz they just drafted a really great Canadian baseball player? Cuz let’s face it. How often are those boys saying "fuck hockey, I’m going to devote all my time to play baseball on this frozen pond instead" I mean, really. It doesn’t happen. I don’t think they would mind giving their baseball team to Hawaii. I say, just give them another hockey team and call it even.

I can’t understand why Mike has such a problem with my rational deduction? Do you?

Nationals Report: March 27th: Junior Minors 4 - Mass Maple Leafs 4

Head Coach Paul Hinrichs and Asst. Coach Mike Lee with the USA Hockey Sportsmanship Award

The Junior Minors, still rallying from their win against the Metro Fighting Moose yesterday, played their very best hockey of the year this morning at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA. With the Mass. Maple Leafs average age of 20 (1988), and a 1 National ranking in Junior C hockey, the Junior Minors knew they had a daunting task ahead of them.
The goal of the EC Junior Minors was to play a strong defensive game, keeping the score low. The Maple Leafs scored first with a power play goal in the first period. Three minutes later, while on another penalty kill, Greg Walton scored a short-handed goal after being set up by Josh Stingley. The first period ended 1-1.In the second period, the Maples Leafs once again scored first. At 5:32, John Murray (Walton) scored, tying the game 2-2. Later in the period, Jeremy Eiland snuck a pass from behind the net, and Michael Mason had a huge goal, to put the Junior Minors in the lead, 3-2. The third period started with the EC Eagles Junior Minor fans going wild in stands. The arena was packed with people, as spectators had come over from other games to watch. The Maple Leafs took the ice with their arms pumping to get themselves fired up. However, the Junior Minors were more than ready. The Junior Minors had a great opportunity when they received a 5 minute power play (created when Michael Mason was tackled mid-ice by a Maple Leaf player). Storm Tremont quickly scored unassisted, and the Eagles were ahead 4-2. The Eagles took a penalty during the 5 minute power play, creating a 4 on 4 situation which the Maples Leafs took advantage of - bringing the score to 4-3. With 5 minutes remaining, the Maple Leafs tied the game 4-4 while on the power play. The third period ended with the 4-4 tie, and the game went into overtime. The OT period was five minutes long, and the score remained tied with 1:20 left when the Maple Leafs took a penalty (once again Michael Mason was knocked flat). The Junior Minors were unable to take advantage, the game remained 4-4 at the end of OT. Stewart Wise faces 34 shots in 65 minutes of play, and the entire team played an excellent, very defensive game - as was their goal. After the game, the team was presented with the USA Hockey Sportsmanship Award - an award given to a single team in the tournament that exemplifies the best Sportsmanship. The award is very meaningful to the East Coast Eagles, as they are an organization that strives for Sportsmanship at such a high level all year.In the end, the Junior Minors finished their season with this game. It was an amazing game and a great performance by our young, inaugural Junior Minor team. They may be young in age, but they showed their grit and determination during this past week. As they begin their long trip home to Raleigh, everyone in the East Coast Eagles organization, as well as all the parents and supporters, are extremely PROUD of this talented team! Way to go, Junior Minors!!

NC STATE ICE HOCKEY ANNOUNCES JUNIOR AFFILIATE!
The NC State Ice hockey club is pleased to announce the addition of the East Coast Eagles Junior Team as the Wolfpack’s first ever Junior affiliate. Based out of Raleigh, the ECE have become a very successful southern Junior program. Many Eagle alumni have gone on to compete at the collegiate and Junior A level.
Look for NC State to schedule a game or two against the East Coast Eagles soon. This will give ECE players the opportunity to see what it takes to play at the college level, and give NCSU coaching staff a chance to see up and coming talent. Recruits will also have the opportunity to tour NCSU campus with current players and ask questions about what the school has to offer on and off the ice.
NC State hockey Vice President, Wes White, commented "We are excited to have the ECE organization as an affiliate. There is a lot of young talent up and coming from the Eagles Junior program. Our coaching staff looks forward to the recruiting advantage. Scrimmages between our clubs will give coaches a first-hand look at great players."

They lost their first game, but they aren’t out of it yet. They have two more games before they’ll know if they get to keep playing for the National Championship.
Nationals Report: March 25th: Charleston Wolverines 5 - Junior Minors 32008-03-25
The Junior Minors first game was a heartbreaker as they took to the National’s ice today at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA.
The Charleston Wolverines are an older (average team age is 1989), larger team and came out ready to play. In contrast, it took the Junior Minors, who are the youngest team at Nationals, the first two periods to get warmed up. After ending the first period down 3-0, they fell behind at the end of the second period, 5-0. In the third period, the audience finally saw the Junior Minors we have watched all season. They came roaring back in with 18 shots on goal. Starting with an unassisted goal, Josh Stingley got the Junior Minors on the Scoreboard. At 12:23, Greg Walton scored (Murray, Giancarlo), and then scored again at 16:08 (Steffans). The Junior Minors held the Wolverines to 8 shots in that last period. In the end, though, there was not enough time to catch up. The Junior Minors were defeated by the Wolverines, 5-3.
With the experience of this first game behind them, the Junior Minors are looking forward to Wednesday’s game against Metro Fighting Moose. They know now that they can hold their own and outplay almost anyone at Nationals!
The full box score can be found here.Remember that you can follow the game tomorrow LIVE with the Eagles Broadcast (audio) from here.

Junior Minors Win CHA Championship!2008-03-16

The Junior Minors have been ranked in First Place all season in the CHA. This weekend, after winning the Championship in the 2008 CHA Junior Minor Playoffs, they sealed their destiny and are going to the USA Junior Hockey Nationals! Playing four games in three days (including the Championship Game), the East Coast Eagles Junior Minors faced their first real "test" of the season - they had to work very hard to come back from a loss and prove their First Place position was deserved.

In the end, the Junior Minors proved themselves to be one of the top Junior Minor teams in the country. Coach Paul Hinrichs has been quick to point out all season, "Every single kid on the Junior Minors has contributed to our success." He truly believes that the hard work, focus, and determination by each and every member of this team was crucial in reaching Nationals.

Friday, March 14th vs. Binghamton Senators: 9-2
The Junior Minors arrived Friday ready to play at the Blade Runner Ice Complex. Their energy was focused on beating the Binghamton Senators, and they easily handled the game. Patrick Becker and Michael Mason had 5 points each (each 2G, 3A); other goals by Storm Tremont, Jeremy Eiland, Jeremy Bost, Josh Stingley, and Greg Walton helped seal the win. Stewart Wise faced 30 shots, while the Eagles offense peppered the Senators’ goalies with 43 shots.

Saturday, March 15th vs. Buffalo Stars: 4-3
The Eagles were handed their only defeat of the weekend (and their third defeat of the entire season) on Saturday morning. In a close fought, back-and-forth battle, goals were scored by Jeremy Eiland, Vinnie D’Andrea, and Storm Tremont. In the end, despite the Eagles generating 43 shots on goal, the Buffalo Stars won by a single point. As they left the ice, the Junior Minors were hoping they would have one more chance to face the Stars - in their minds, the battle was not over. As it turned out, they would face them in the Championship.

Saturday, March 15th vs. Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins: 9-3
The Junior Penguins took the ice and faced the wrath of the Junior Minors, who were still smarting from their loss earlier in the day. Storm Tremont had 4 goals in the second period; Jeremy Eiland had 2 Goals and 4 Assists; and other goals were scored by Kyle Charron, Vinnie D’Andrea, and Kellen Kromm. As always when playing the Junior Penguins, it was a very physical game. However, the focus and determination of the Junior Minors helped them dominate this game.

Sunday, March 16th: The Championship Game

Junior Minors vs. Buffalo Stars: 8-4
In the hardest fought game of the weekend, the Junior Minors played with both physical strength and a lot of heart. While ending the First Period with a 4-1 lead (goals by Murray, Steffan, Becker, and Eiland), the Eagles knew the last two periods would be a challenge. The Buffalo Stars had shown what they were made of a day earlier, and they would not go down without a fight. In the early 3rd period, the game was tied 4-4. It was a physical game, with many penalties on both sides. However, George Boukas used his well-known speed to score a short-handed goal, and Kyle Charron followed three minutes later with a power-play goal. Greg Walton sealed the game by exploding at the end with two goals (including one short-handed).

Following the game, the Junior Minors were presented with the Championship Trophy.Congratulations to Jeremy Eiland who received the Tournament MVP award, as well as the Dave Tyler award (presented to a player who best demonstrates good sportsmanship and commitment to the game).

On a Personal Note...The Junior Minors dedicated their Championship Game this weekend to player Matt Wrightson, who was unable to travel with the team. Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt and the entire Wrightson family, as Matt’s father, Doug, recovers from his accident.

i started this faith journey at Harmony Heights Baptist Church, Indep. MO. i was around 14 yrs. old and decided to attend a small little Baptist church. there i was "saved" and baptised a Christian. my next spiritual connection was at the LDS church that offered such love and a sense of family. they showed me how to live out that Baptismal commitment, how to stand up for my beliefs, how to not be afraid of being different, and to always chose the right. but i always longed for a spiritual "home". something that felt comfortable, that fit me, that was completely in-lne with my beliefs and how i felt inside. i then met my husband and his family and they showed me that home.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is a program in the Catholic church to become Catholic. i have been in RCIA for almost three years and this Easter i exited that program. I recieved Confirmation and my First Communion. I am overwhelmed with joy, peace, and happiness. I want it to last and last. i know that work with start tomorrow and my life will go back to normal. i’ll have trials, sickness, bad days, i’ll sin again...but i know that through God’s grace and his sacraments I’ll be able to return to this feeling again and again. and i know one day it won’t go away and i’ll have it everlasting and that is pretty awesome!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me! Mostly Thank You to my loving husband. I look forward to creating a strong Catholic family of our own one day.

Hope you all had a blessed Easter! Peace Be With You!

I followed my friend Emily's blogs to this site, kansascityisinmissouri.com and, since I am from KC, MO, I wanted to share a few things with you.

***Recent studies have shown that 94.3% of Americans believe that Kansas City is a city located in the state of Kansas. We can certainly understand how this misunderstanding could occur. Here at kansascityisinmissouri.com, it is our mission to inform the world that Kansas City, is in fact in the state of Missouri.***

Frequently Asked Questions
Here at KansasCityIsInMissouri.com, we receive several e-mails with geographically-oriented questions. We have assembled this list of commonly asked questions or "FAQs" to help educate the public.

Isn't there also a Kansas City, Kansas?

Ha! Oh, poor uneducated e-mail writer. This is a common urban legend. But no, there is no Kansas City, Kansas. Stop being silly.

Aren't towns like Overland Park, Olathe and Shawnee vital to the Kansas City Metro?

Of course! Without such vital suburbs as the ones you mentioned, there would be significantly fewer Olive Gardens, Pottery Barns and Old Navies. No one can underestimate the value of these contributions.

Are there any simple clues to help me know if I'm in Kansas rather than Missouri?

Absolutely! Here is a simple test you can perform to find out what state you are in. Ask a friendly citizen about their thoughts on evolution. If you are met with hostility and bible verses, chances are you're in Kansas!

Aren't websites like this only serving to divide the populace of a metropolitan area separated only by a nominal state border?

Whatever.

Do you think this is funny? You're a dick.

Thanks for writing! It is true that Missouri boasts vast quantities of naturally occurring limestone and is rated 6th in the nation for hog production.
